Project Overview
Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) is a government department in Nepal responsible for providing water supply and sanitation services in the Kathmandu Valley. The existing website of KUKL was outdated, difficult to navigate, and lacked user-friendly features. As a UI/UX designer, I undertook the challenge of redesigning the website to improve user experience and accessibility.
Project Goal
Before diving into the redesign, I set clear goals for the project. The primary objectives were:
Enhance user experience by simplifying navigation and improving accessibility.
Update the visual design to reflect a modern, clean, and professional look.
Ensure the website is mobile-friendly and responsive.
Provide easy access to important information and services offered by KUKL.
Final Result
Analyzing the Old Design

Site Map
Before jumping into sketches, I prepared a site map to outline the new structure of the website. The site map helped organize the content and ensure a logical flow of information.

Early Sketch
With the site map as a guide, I started sketching out ideas for the new landing page. These early sketches focused on layout and navigation. I experimented with different placements of key elements to find the most user-friendly arrangement.

Due to the tight deadline, I skipped the usual steps and went straight from sketching to creating high-fidelity wireframes. Next, I developed style guidelines to ensure a consistent visual design across the website.
Style Guidelines

Bringing the Design to Life
With the style guidelines in place, I moved on to creating the visual design for the landing page. I applied the color palette, typography, and visual elements to the wireframes, bringing the new design to life. The result was a clean, modern, and professional look that significantly improved usability.

Prototyping and Testing
After creating the visual design, I tested the new landing page with internal team members to gather feedback. Based on their input, I made several iterations to refine the design. The final product was a user-friendly, visually appealing, and responsive website that met all the project goals.
Reflecting on the Journey
Redesigning the KUKL website was a rewarding experience. Each step, from defining the project goals to finalizing the design, was crucial in creating a website that truly serves the needs of its users.
As a UI/UX designer, I learned the importance of user-centered design and iterative improvements. The new KUKL landing page is now a modern, accessible, and user-friendly platform that effectively communicates the services and mission of Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited.
